Dick Schaff

Jr. High Super Bowl

RULES AND REGULATIONS

Schools will be permitted to bring a maximum of twenty students (ten at each grade level.) Students must compete at the level of the class in which they are currently enrolled. In other words, 7th grade students enrolled in an 8th grade class must compete at the 8th grade level. Students enrolled in a high school course must compete in the high school competition and are not qualified to compete in the Junior High Math Superbowl.

The Blitz

Blitz is an individual event for which quick computational skills are needed. Up to fifty multiple choice questions may be asked during a given period of time. The student with the highest number of correct answers shall be declared the winner. Ties will be broken by a series of weighted questions.

For any of the Stanislaus Mathematics Council Competitions, no test question, where a participant might need to use a calculator or any other electronic device, will be included in any of our tests.  This is true for the 6th Grade Math Blast, Dick Schaff Jr. High Super Bowl, or the High School Math Competition.  Therefore, no electronic devices will be allowed at any of our competitions.

The Huddle

The Huddle is a two-person event. An individual CANNOT compete in this event without a partner from his/her school from the same grade. Each person on the team works the same set of problems individually during the first 30 minutes. In the last 15 minutes the team members compare their papers. During this time, teammates may discuss quietly the work they are doing. The team will turn in one answer sheet. Each school is allowed up to five teams per grade level.  Scoring is similar to the Blitz.

The Bomb

The Bomb is a five-person team relay event. Teams must be five entrants of the same grade from the same school. Each school is allowed one team per grade level. The "test" shall consist of five pages, each containing five questions. Each member of the team will work one problem from each page. After the student answers a question on each page, they will pass that page along to the next member of the team. That page CANNOT be returned to that student. The event will have a time limit. Ties will be broken by the time of completion of the test by the team. Calculators may be used on this event.

Trophies will be provided for first five places in the Blitz, three places in the Huddle, and three places in the Bomb for both small and large schools at each grade level.

Each school is expected to help with the proctoring of the Bomb.
