Welcome to the Stanislaus Math Council

The Stanislaus Mathematics Council, established in 1969, is a volunteer organization of early childhood through University mathematics educators with the goal of promoting outstanding mathematics education for all children in Calaveras, Mariposa, Merced, San Joaquin, Stanislaus and Tuolumne counties.

It is an affiliate of the National Council of Teachers of mathematics and the California Mathematics Council. SMC works closely with, but is distinct from, the Stanislaus County Office of Education.

To achieve its goal, SMC sponsors mathematics competitions for 6th Grade, Middle School, and High School students, and locally held professional development activities for in-service teachers.

Math at the State (MATHS)

The Stanislaus Math Council is excited to host its first Math at the State (MATHS) on Saturday, October 3rd, 2015, at 2: p.m. MATHS highlights interesting careers that use mathematics and follows up the presentation with a fun movie. Our first speaker is Adam Sidwell, computer graphics artist, and the accompanying movie is Toy Story III.

Our speaker, Adam Sidwell, in addition to authoring the popular children's books Evertaster, Fetch and Chum, creates computer graphics for movies such as Pirates of the Caribbean, King Kong, Pacific Rim, Transformers and Tron. He will talk about how math is used in computer graphics.
